Kura FAQs
For groups sized 60 and less, you can bring 4 helpers. For groups over 60 you can bring 5 helpers including tutors.
If you have any children or youth with special needs they can have their own individual helper.
Please make your own name tags (personal & school name) to gain entry.
Make sure you sit with and supervise your group at all times.
Please be at the Town Hall 50 mins prior to the concert starting.
We recommend you come by bus if possible so all your group arrives at the same time.
Otherwise, get your group to meet outside the venue by the performers entrance which will be signposted.
Once your group is gathered our volunteers will take you through to the auditorium.
Please arrive with moko and uniforms already on, plan for minimal preparation at the venue.
NO. Please arrive ready to perform, no going out back to rehearse prior or during concert please?
Your group represents your school community.
The following is permissible as long as you have the blessing from your Māori school community.
Ta moko mata ora for boys must be drawn correctly or with professional stencils.
Girls can wear black lipstick and/or include a moko kauae drawn correctly or with stencils
One idea is for leaders only to wear moko (this saves a lot of time!)
I (Matua Steve) don’t have moko on juniors or primary tamariki as it takes too much time and is messy.
Once we have all the group numbers of every school and the order of performance, we will send out a seating pānui that will indicate which door you enter the auditorium through and what seats you have allocated.
We will have our staff there to guide you and show you exactly where to sit. Please follow their instructions.
Please leave all shoes, extra clothing and bags outside on the concourse. Boys can wear their tops/ jerseys into the auditorium (it can get cold) and leave them on their seats when they go to perform.
We do have security and the concourse is not open to the public so all your gear should be secure.
We run our concert as efficiently as we can. As soon as one group has left the stage the next group is invited on.
We do not have specific timings for groups for our concerts as groups may run shorter and the concert may move quicker. We cannot give you what time your group is on.
As your designated person is introducing your group, they will file onto stage directly from the auditorium, using the stage steps and line up ready to perform. Our staff will guide you with this. please listen to their instructions.
The side that your group is seated on, is the side that you will enter and exit the stage steps from.
All groups enter from front of house, there is no going behind the stage.
If your groups bracket starts on the opposite side of the stage, we ask that you go up the steps and cross the stage to your start position rather than walking in front of the stage.
This is a health and safety issue regarding managing our large groups.
Our all in waiata and haka at the end of each concert is our haka tautoko for all groups that everyone can join in with.
Please NO haka tautoko during the concerts we are on a strict timeframe. thank you for your understanding.
We would definitely prefer that this doesn’t happen as it creates an unnecessary disturbance for the whole concert.
It also means that the children miss out on the all-school waiata and haka at the end which is a highlight of each concert.
NO, we would ask that your group just return to their seats after their performance to watch the rest of the concert.
It is particularly important that your leaders remain in their full costumes as they will be asked to come to the stage at the end of the concert to represent your school.
NO. We are all in together for the duration of the concert.
All lost property remains at the venue.
They can be contacted if you have left something behind.
